Guest Post: Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes
Posted by Shelly Jaronsky on 1/16/2012 to Summer Ideas

It's another
smash hit from Shelly Jaronsky
of Cookies and Cups!

In this tutorial, Shelly uses products from MyCandyCrafts.com and Candy.com to create create easy and adorable ice cream cone cupcakes. Perfect for birthday parties.

Thank you Shelly!

Hi! Shelly from Cookies and Cups here again! Doing another birthday treat. These ice cream cone cupcakes are really easy. You'll need:
Bake up some cupcakes. Use a boxed mix. Trust me, it'll be fine. Make some buttercream icing. See, you're already half way done!

Next up I used these cute
Ice Cream Cone molds ...

I am not an expert at candy molds, so trust me when I say, anyone can do these!

Melt some candy wafers, according to package directions, inside a Ziplock bag. That's right ... melt them inside the Ziplock. You could also use a piping bag. It saves on major clean up.

When they are all melted, just snip off the corner. You only need a small opening. I used white candy melt wafers for the top of the ice cream cone. Carefully squeeze just a little bit into your mold. Don't fill the white part all the way, because you still need to fill the base. Repeat in all the molds.

Next, repeat the melting process with chocolate melting disks and fill the cone portion of the mold. Stick your lollipop stick into the molds and press gently so it will stick in the chocolate. Place mold in freezer for about 15 minutes until chocolate is set and chilled. This helps release the candy from the mold. Turn mold upside down and give it a gentle pat to release.

You can now add your little "cherry on top of the cone." I used a Hot Pink Sixlet candy and attached it with a little extra melting chocolate. I set the cones upright just until the candy had set.

If you haven't already used Roundabouts to wrap around your baked cupcake, you should try them. These are so cute and easy, and have a double-sided tape edge so they will adjust to fit your cupcake. Roundabouts also come in tons of themes to match most any party idea that you've got.

I frosted my cupcakes using a "1M" tip.

Press the Ice Cream Cone candy directly into the cupcake, and you're done!

I have been baking cupcakes in actual ice cream cones for years. I place the cones in a muffin tin, prepare the cake batter as normal and add ¼ cup to ⅔ cup of batter into each cone. Bake at 350-degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes or so. After the cupcakes cool, add frosting and whatever ice-cream toppings or decorations you prefer.
