Kristan Roland, the fun and funny blogger-baker behind Confessions of a Cookbook Queen
(Kristan's blog is like a fresh dose of Erma Bombeck ... with frosting
on top), whipped us up a batch of Christmas Tree Cupcakes. Don't these
jolly green wonders scream "Festive!!" ?

Several weeks ago, we contacted Kristan and challenged her to come up with a holiday-themed tutorial using products from MyCandyCrafts.com.
Lucky for us, she obliged, sent us her shopping list, and fired up her
oven to create these twinkling trees. Thank you Kristan!
Kristan's Shopping List
- Yellow, Red, and Milk Chocolate Candy Melts
- 3/4-inch Christmas Tree Light Candy Mold
- 1-1/8-inch Star Candy Mold
- Large Open Star Piping Tip
- Festive Cupcake Liners
- Assorted Candy Pearls, Mini M&M's
- Green Gel Coloring
- Cupcakes, baked, and cooled
- Frosting (Preferably homemade so it’s thick enough to pipe tall. Kristan used this recipe.)
The 411 from Kristan ...
These cupcakes are so fun and easy for any Christmas party! The tree lights and star are what really make them pop.
In
microwave-safe bowls, melt the yellow, red, and chocolate candy wafers
according to package directions. Fill piping bags with melted candy and
snip off the very end so that there is just a small opening. Fill the star mold cavities with melted yellow candy.
Pipe chocolate candy at the base of the Christmas Tree Light mold. Fill in the remaining space with yellow or red candy.
Once
the molds are full (you’ll need one star and about eight to 10 lights per
cupcake), let them set until candy is firm. To speed up this
process, you can place the filled molds in the refrigerator. Gently
pop the candy from the molds and set aside.
Using
your green gel color, tint frosting to your desired shade of green.
Fill a piping bag fitted with a large open star tip, and pipe several
swirls on top of the cupcake, creating a tree shape.
To trim
each tree, gently press the candy lights into the frosting, sprinkle
with candy pearls and mini M&M's to create the "ornaments," and top
it all off with a yellow star. Enjoy!

These are cute and clever, although I don't have the molds I could use the same concept and just freehand the star and bulbs and get the same effect.

I can't believe you made the little ornaments. I was sure they were candy. You are too much! :)
